While we informed you all back in January about some upgrades made by Brompton to the design of your Brompton Electric. Brompton is committed to continually improving and evolving all of its products.
Since this action, Brompton have received reports of issues with the mudguard on some Brompton Electric bikes which have resulted in injury. All incidents have occurred with bikes that have not been fitted with the new mudguard upgrade.
Although the risk of an accident occurring is very low, the safety of our customers is of the utmost importance, and Brompton have now begun a programme to repair all affected bikes as part an official recall.

What is the problem?
In specific circumstances if an object of a certain size becomes trapped between the bike’s mudguard stay and tyre, it can result in the mudguard getting caught on the tyre, and the bike’s wheel rotation becoming inhibited or stopping suddenly.
What is the repair?
- Battery catch — the battery catch has been modified to reduce the movement between the battery and the bike. This minimises battery disconnections, prolonging the life of the electronics and improving ride experience.
- New mudguard stay — the updated stay geometry increases clearance between the mudguard and tyre to improve performance on non-paved surfaces.
How can you get the upgrades?
If you have not yet booked your bike in for the work, you can get both upgrades to your Brompton Electric by booking an upgrade appointment with our Brompton Electric Accredited branches (Canonmills, Edinburgh, Aberdeen & Leeds) or by calling 0345 257 0808 or emailing our Enquiries Team.
Bring in your bike on the agreed date. We'll carry out the upgrades, and check and update your bike's firmware at the same time.
If you are no longer close to one of our Brompton Electric Accredited branches head to Brompton's Store Finder Page to find your closest store and make an appointment. (Upgrade work must be completed by a Brompton Electric Accredited store.)
We apologise for any inconvenience caused by this required upgrade, thank you for your patience and understanding.
