Project Green is the latest initiative from Muc-Off. We stock a wide range of Muc-Off products – and have done since 1994! As well as making decent products, they’ve always been keen on minimising their environmental impact by developing biodegradable products but with Project Green, they aim to take this mission further.
For 2020 and beyond we’ve created ‘Project Green’ a focus which will never be finished and commitment to deliver a multitude of improvements across our business. A simple focus to protect the playground we ride in.

THERE ARE THREE MAIN STRANDS TO PROJECT GREEN:
Product Initiatives
Continuing to develop products (and packaging) that minimise their impact on the environment. For example, the concentrated version of their biodegradable bike cleaner now also has eco refill packaging to save on plastic waste.
They’ve also ensured the trigger mechanisms on their bottles are durable so you can refill to your heart’s content as the trigger mechanism should last at least 10,000 squeezes.
Their entire range, including M094 and Bio Wet Lube are now PTFE free! (PTFEs can really affect wildlife when they drain into water sources so it’s great they don’t use them).
Recycling & Refilling
You can now refill your Nano Tech Bike Cleaner in store in Aberdeen, Edinburgh Bruntsfield, Newcastle and Leeds!
Not only are you using less plastic, the RRP on the refill service is 50% cheaper meaning you can clean your bike for less as well as have a clean conscience!
Muc-Off has also redesigned many components such as the lids and nozzles on products like their Bio Grease and Matt Detailer to make them more widely recyclable when you are done with them.
This initiative has been developed as part of achieving the key objective of Project Green: to eliminate over 30 tonnes of plastic by 2023 (as well as supporting independent bike shops like us!) and they hope to roll out other in-store refill stations too.
Partnerships
Muc-off has partnered with 1% for the Planet, agreeing to donate 1% of annual sales of the Nano Tech bike wash sold through in-store Refill stations (pictured above) to support non-profit organisations focused on the environment.

OUR PART TO PLAY
Along with fully supporting brands and products which are environmentally conscious, we’re also trying to do our bit: as you might know, we recycle a lot of different things – inner tubes are sent to Cycle of Good to help Malawians while electric equipment, plastics and cardboard are also recycled. We also accept donations of unwanted bikes to donate to The Bike Station, an Edinburgh-based charity dedicated to renovating old bicycles.
We are also proud to support our suppliers who are also trying to minimise their carbon footprint. For example, the printer we use for our in store posters – GMP – offsets the carbon used in the printing of our materials by planting broad-leaf trees at Feoch Farm, Darvel, Ayrshire.
