Douglas from our Canonmills shop loves bikes. He particularly loves mountain biking and when he’s not working, you’ll often find him hitting the trails. Below, Douglas gives us a quick review of his Trance model from the Giant mountain bikes range, which he describes as “the perfect trail bike”.

THE MAIN REASONS I LOVE MY GIANT TRANCE:
Firstly: the fit of the bike. At 5ft 11″ I chose the size large. The Trance has a nice long top tube and this is matched with a 45mm stem which works great for me as an aggressive trail bike. It gives me sharp steering and a stable bike downhill due to the slack enough head angle (basically front wheel quite far in front of me).
Secondly: the suspension. Giant use a twin link suspension system and in my experience (27 years riding and racing) they are the best types of suspension systems! Plus, Giant frames are the well made. The quality you’ll find in this bike comes at a lower price point than any other brand.

The new top link and metric shock mounts coupled with boost spacing gives you a nice supple suspension action with no pedal feed back or brake jack. It also comes with tonnes of mud clearance (ideal for rough and muddy tracks).
After a year and a half of hard use my pivot bearings are still nice and smooth! Saving workshop time/maintenance.
So from long technical xc runs, endurance races, up lift days at Innerleithen downhill tracks to steep enduro tracks at Dunkeld, my Giant Trance does it all!
Here are some pics from my latest ride with two awesome ladies to Glentress where we ascending and descending all-day. We passed the radio mast three times (the highest point in Glentress) and we did 1200 meters of climbing in 31km! So that’s a tonne of steep up and down for 31k off road. Needless to say, my Trance stood up to the challenge like I knew it would.
