A hybrid bike is great for all-round riding. If you start looking, you’ll probably not struggle to find a hybrid bike under £500. However, the thing you might struggle with is choosing one which is actually decent. A bike which might seem a bargain might actually prove to be heavy, difficult to steer and ultimately not fun or enjoyable to ride. BEST HYBRID BIKES UNDER £500 – WHAT TO LOOK FOR

Frame: let’s face it, you’re not going to get a full carbon frame in this price bracket. But a lightweight aluminium will give you a durable and efficient bike.

Gearing: you’ll want to look for a bike with good quality componentry (such as well known brand, Shimano). Because it’s likely you’ll be riding on a variety of flat and hilly routes, go for something with a wide spread of gears (from one to twenty-one or more).

Practicality: depending on when, where and how often you plan to ride, you might want to consider things like mudguard and pannier rack compatibility. Suspension won’t be standard in all bikes but if you plan to ride on some slightly rough terrain, a bike with front suspension it’s definitely something you’ll want to consider (although it will add some weight). Ability to add a front pannier rack and front panniers for bicycles.

This bike is a best seller with good reason. It’s versatile commuter bike with front suspension and disc brakes to make it more than capable on light trails. The aluminium frame make it one of the lightest around in the price bracket and with pannier rack and mudguard compatibility, it truly is a trail capable commuter bike.

KALKHOFF AGATTU 21 2019 STEP-THROUGH HYBRID BIKE

Kalkhoff bikes are known for their excellent German engineering and the Agattu 21 is no different. As well as being equipped with Shimano 3×7 gearing, this bike comes with mudguards, pannier rack, chain guard, kick stand and front and rear lights fitted as standard. The front suspension fork also makes this bike ideal for smooth and less-than-smooth riding.
