We recently got to demo the all-new E-160 RSX 29R and the initial sensation that strikes you is how incredibly stable and assured it felt when hitting the trails around Glentress.
Surefootedness was the order of the day! The directional changes inspired confidence and bumps dealt with impressively in the downhill sections. The more I got to throw it around the trails the more I found myself hitting features and technical ascents that I would normally avoid.
I perhaps didn’t unleash the full potential of this bike from worrying I would crash it and secondly, being a novice in the saddle, unlike some of my colleagues who were incredible in the downhill trails! Despite this, I am reasonably familiar with the Whyte bike, however with assistance from the mechanics' in setting the bike up, allowed my performance to improve throughout the day.
The Bosch system has four levels of assistance which really help the bikes performance to shine through. Because of the new CX Smart System, it responded to the amount of torque passing through the sensors and gave me the right amount of power from the 85n/m motor for any situation I faced. This was very useful in multiple occurrences throughout the day, from riding steadily along, to applying maximum force on technical ascents where, occasionally, raw power and speed were the only options to reach the top.

Even without the motor, the ride quality was excellent. Yes, it weighs more than a non-electric mountain bike which is to be expected, but once the wheels are moving, it felt nimble and agile, with the poppy suspension making it easy to get airborne.
One thing I was told remember with a full-suspension electric mountain bike is that you sacrifice some agility for the added power! However, it wasn't noticeable on the trails or over jumps, I thought it flowed quite well throughout the downhill section and seem extremely planted when I needed it to be with the 29” wheels handling everything I could throw at it.
To sum up, it is a fantastic electric mountain bike and although yes, it is pricey, it’s well worth the money. After a couple of hours on the bike, I arrived back at the car park with a huge smile on my face, tired muscles and a new toy added to my Christmas Wishlist.
